James Gilchrist is one of the foremost tenors in the UK with a particular penchant for the interpretation and promotion of British music. He was a chorister at New College, Oxford, and a choral scholar at King’s College, Cambridge; after training to become a doctor he switched careers to become a professional singer. Medicine’s loss is music’s gain!
He is considered to be one of the best interpreters of the role of Evangelist in the Bach Passions. James is also much in demand as a recitalist, and has performed recitals of songs by Schumann, Schubert, Finzi, Ivor Gurney, Britten and modern settings of English poetry of the Romantic period.
James is also president of Mindsong, a Gloucestershire charity that helps dementia sufferers through music.
